About Us

Springgrove Estate has been in the same family for generations and was named after hardy Scottish settlers who were granted a concession over an area from Chrissiesmeer to the Swaziland border in the 1870’s by President Pretorius of the Transvaal Republic

The farm offers beautiful “pet friendly” accommodation and a charming venue facility with a warm country style charm.

Nature lovers are in for a treat when visiting our estate. Enjoy the fresh country air, a place of tranquillity and peacefulness. Let nature entertain you. The spectacular green rolling hills, ancient granite boulders, streams, timber forests and rustic atmosphere have often been likened to a typical English countryside. Our estate is nestled in the heart of Mpumulanga’s New Scotland District, a mere 2.5 hour’s drive from Pretoria, 3 hours from Johannesburg, 35 kilometers from Chrissiesmeer and 67 kilometers from Ermelo.

We offer the ideal playground for nature lovers, adventure sportsmen, cyclists, hikers, eco-tourists and for people just wanting to relax in a beautiful farm/country setting. The farm and the surrounding wetland area, is home to hundreds of beautiful bird species and wildlife such as Duiker, Reed buck, Oribi, Blackbacked Jackal, Vervet Monkeys, bush pigs, Porcupines and various feline species.

What We Offer

Accommodation

We offer self-catering accommodation (with a touch of history).

Our 10 warm and inviting self-catering cottages, sleeping 48 guests on a double room occupancy (6 x guests on sleeper couches), are all set within walking distance or a very short drive from the tranquil dams, which provide serenity from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Our 11 x sleeper family home, the grand old Manor House (that oozes old-world graciousness and charm), is in a class of its own. Seeing is believing. The Manor House is only rented out for weddings (available for the bridal party) or other celebrations where the whole farm is booked.

Activities

Springgrove Estate has never-ending vistas of trees, vleis and even boasts some San rock paintings which form part of the Grootvlei natural heritage site. There are two spectacular dams on the property, which are home to numerous waterfowl. The area is especially suitable for mountain cycling tracks in and around the vlei and plantation areas. We are presently in the process of laying out cycling trails for events.

You will hear (and see) many frogs near the dams, as well as spotting local bird species including the Black Crested Eagles, Kestrels and of course the majestic Crested Crane. The melodious and haunting mating call of the pair of crested cranes which habitually visit the dams in summer, is a common occurrence.
